Kindness Board

Standard

I started this board at the beginning of the school year. The kids loved it and wrote on it all the time. Then a smart board moved into my room and was placed in front of it. About a month ago, the smart board got moved and so the kindness board has been rediscovered. I love seeing the kids write about each other in such a positive way. ┬áToday someone asked me if we could erase it. I wasn’t ready. Maybe tomorrow and then see how much they write about each other during the last week of school

Blog Love

Standard

Lately, I have discovered two blogs I am really loving. They both happen to be from Australia, which I find interesting. I don’t know much about their culture but I am interested to learn more.
http://www.theroadishome.com//– which is about a young photographer and her family.
The next one is about childhood and imagination.http://blog.imaginechildhood.com/
Check them out and let me know what you think.

Sewing

Standard

Lots of new plans in the sewing department. I recently purchased three production licenses from lilblueboo.com to make their twirl skirt, halter dress, and sienna dress. I have made these before and love them because they are so fast and easy to make and you can use recycled shirts as your material.Yay for low overhead and recycling!!

I renamed my shop stripes and ruffles. I think it balances the two things I like to sew. I love sewing with recycled materials and I love using designer fabrics and creating ruffly, girly outfits. http://www.etsy.com/shop/StripesandRuffles

I am also finishing up an apron for a cupcake birthday dress for a special childhood friend whose daughter is turning three. I did one last year for her, too.

I have some white fabric coming that I have some dye plans for. I have two bottles of RIT all ready for it. I want to sew a few dresses using hand dyed fabric. I am obsessing over ombre on pinterest right now.

I will also be pattern testing for whimsy couture and create kids couture this week. I love pattern testing because it gives me a deadline and usually forces me to work on things I normally wouldn’t do. I am doing some fancy ruffle pants for CKC and a sunny day suit for WC.

My nice camera got the top ripped off while we were in Tennessee so I am going to try and drop that off to get repaired this week. Hoping it doesn’t cost a fortune. At least I have my back up canon power shot.

What tomorrow brings.

Standard

I find it ironic that I got my contract not renewed the week before teacher appreciation week. I have no clear reason why. Good reviews all five years. Please don’t judge me too harshly. I turned my plans in every week and tried my best. I didn’t beat any kids.
The way my brain works is that I need a plan and then everything will seem clearer. My plan was falling into place last year and I didn’t even know it when I applied for my Master’s degree in Educational Technology and Online Education. I will go full time for one year and home school the kids. I have always wanted to. ALWAYS. I am VERY excited about this part. The kids are so excited. Edison is telling me how he wants things to be run and Dylan has a laundry list of topics he wants to study. In one year, I will be done and teach at an online school and hopefully Intro to Ed for the community college and keep homeschooling. So there it is. That doesn’t sound so bad, now does it? I think some extra sewing time will get in, too. Bonus.

product review- Eggies

Standard

I am convinced the reason Walmart has three cashiers working on a Saturday is so that while you are standing in line for a half an hour you begin to remember more things you need to buy or in my case, the as seen on TV products make their way into your cart. I do not even have regular TV- I have never seen an ad for these. However, we eat a lot of eggs and I hate peeling them. My kids think hard boiled eggs are the best things ever. I put one in Edison’s lunch the other day and he came home raving about his delicious egg and thank you mom for putting that in there. This is how I justified the Eggies purchase- after couponing and saving money on things I needed, I bought this. Surprisingly, husband was excited to try it. (another huge hard boiled egg fan).
So here is how it works. Buy this.

Wash and dry all the parts- kind of a pain. This is why it got bad reviews on amazon. Really only took me a few minutes. You also need to oil the inside after it is assembled. I just used a paper towel and it took a second.

Thank you chickens.

After the first egg did not slide in easily, but blobbed on the table I used this little pitcher. You can use a drinking glass. Then they went in easily.

Then they float in the water while it comes to a boil. I want to say it is around 7-10 minutes.
DSC_0016
Let them cool for a few minutes. You know, for safety.

I have made them a few more times. I will store them in a ziploc bag.
Pros- No peeling eggs
Cons- Lots of little parts to wash. Boiling food in plastic freaks me out a little.
I would say if you eat a lot of eggs, it might be worth it. We really hate peeling eggs so we like it.

I couldn’t decide which one I liked more. I am loving photoshop elements, though.

Snake visit

Standard

My husband is home on spring break this week and offered to come in and talk about his snakes. I mean, if you have nine snakes, you mind as well do something with all of them, right? The kids LOVED it and most of them touched them. The kids asked really good questions, too. Aaron was blown away with them. He is used to seventh graders so he had to take his lecture down a few notches, but he really captured their attention.
