I am going to take a break from facebook and focus on my family during this season. I want more quiet and peace. I need less bombardment of other people’s lives. Not that I don’t love my friends, but it is a lot sometimes.I will post some projects on here and work on writing more often. My self discipline is something I struggle with.I plan to do yoga and get rested up over the break.
Right now, I am planning my handmade gifts, finishing my last paper of the term- yay, and wanting to enjoy this winter break with my husband and kids. Wishing everyone peace and comfort in this sad time. Love and light- Erica

Pins that work

The last few days I have used several household pins that REALLY work. I thought I would share them to save someone time of trying something that was wasteful or didn’t work.

Grout- I know. Who thinks about the grout on their floor? This wasn’t something I was searching but I found it and did it on a whim and it is INSANE. I have never cleaned the grout in the last eight years in the house. (hangs head). I did my hallway and it was dark brown and is now WHITE!! I have to caps lock it because it is that good. I probably can do it one more time for it to be pristine. I mixed the vinegar, baking soda, water, and lemon juice in a bucket and scrubbed the floor with a brush I had. I used an old rag towel to wipe it up.

I also made some hair detangler. This one I searched out and found a few and tried this one and it worked. V’s hair was really tangled and after her bath, I sprayed it on and combed her hair out. No more expensive detangler spray. It was simply one part conditioner to nine parts water. I eyeballed it.

The last thing I made was magic eraser scrub. I was searching for a DIY magic eraser. I found this pin that was just baking soda and a wet rag. Seriously worked just as well. I scrubbed the whole hallway and am working on all my baseboards. No good picture of before or after but trust me, it works. I buy the big bag of baking soda at Sam’s Club. I want to say it is 5-6 dollars. I will never buy magic eraser again.

Kindness Board

I started this board at the beginning of the school year. The kids loved it and wrote on it all the time. Then a smart board moved into my room and was placed in front of it. About a month ago, the smart board got moved and so the kindness board has been rediscovered. I love seeing the kids write about each other in such a positive way. ¬†Today someone asked me if we could erase it. I wasn’t ready. Maybe tomorrow and then see how much they write about each other during the last week of school

What tomorrow brings.

I find it ironic that I got my contract not renewed the week before teacher appreciation week. I have no clear reason why. Good reviews all five years. Please don’t judge me too harshly. I turned my plans in every week and tried my best. I didn’t beat any kids.
The way my brain works is that I need a plan and then everything will seem clearer. My plan was falling into place last year and I didn’t even know it when I applied for my Master’s degree in Educational Technology and Online Education. I will go full time for one year and home school the kids. I have always wanted to. ALWAYS. I am VERY excited about this part. The kids are so excited. Edison is telling me how he wants things to be run and Dylan has a laundry list of topics he wants to study. In one year, I will be done and teach at an online school and hopefully Intro to Ed for the community college and keep homeschooling. So there it is. That doesn’t sound so bad, now does it? I think some extra sewing time will get in, too. Bonus.

I couldn’t decide which one I liked more. I am loving photoshop elements, though.

Snake visit

My husband is home on spring break this week and offered to come in and talk about his snakes. I mean, if you have nine snakes, you mind as well do something with all of them, right? The kids LOVED it and most of them touched them. The kids asked really good questions, too. Aaron was blown away with them. He is used to seventh graders so he had to take his lecture down a few notches, but he really captured their attention.
And showing the kids where the snakes are from-

I have a little guy in my classroom called the tattle monster. He is a tissue box with teeth around the opening for kids to put their tattles in. I saw it on Pinterest and had to copy it and hope it was worth a shot. If you have ever wondered why teachers seem grumpy or don’t want to listen to your kid, it is because ALL DAY LONG they are being told small bits of facts about people or things they have little or no interest in hearing. I don’t want to sound too callous, I do try to listen so when a child tells me something important I know what is going on. I have a tattling filter, if you will. I do read all the tattles in the tattle monster to make sure everyone is safe and nothing REALLY bad is happening.

Sometimes, the tattle monster is pretty entertaining.Maybe I spend too much time with kids. I have to share a few.
—— said to stop, but I was just breathing.(please don’t stop breathing)
—— was showing his butt in the library.(ummmm)
——-keeps on flapping his wings like a bird.( you will so get made fun of for this when you are older)
——-put me in the tattle monster for no reason.(I am sure.)
——-looked at my tattle to see if I was writing about him.(I love the tattling about tattling)
——-keeps looking at me and so and so’s name cards on our desk. (really- is it that big of a deal? )
——-is being a tattletale. (pot calling the kettle black?)
——-three people are giving me the evil eye.( maybe you should rethink what you are doing?)
——-was being sassy. (hahaha)
——-looked at me and stomped.
So there you have it. The drama of a day in second grade. This is only a fraction of it.
